You've actually described how Gameplay Backup will function in the 4x branch.
Far away from this, however. The current Alpha released on Discord hasn't yet got restoration, which is the main focus right now.

Unless I'm missing something, you're describing functionality already available.
Go to Program Settings -> Task Specific -> Backup Settings. Make sure the Create a separate archive... option as well as Create a new archive upon file change... option are both selected.

I plan on releasing a Program Update in the coming days, which will include this alteration.

Do you know of a registry value which contains this path? Not everyone installs their games in the Program Files directory, let alone the C: partition.

I think you've missed the point of this forum "section". The project doesn't inherently know every save location for every title; our community submits that data here or in-app. To answer your question; there is no Barbie Explorer entry in our database so we have no clue. Typical locations...

The only thing I can really think of here is something is running that is "locking" the file(s). For example, performing a backup of your Minecraft saves while said game is running will likely fail; the game itself is actively reading and writing to and from these files. It could just come...
